Fresno Concerts & Events
In a few days Christian Rapper, Bizzle, will perform in Fresno, California. Will you be there?
Misinterpretation and limitations set on how Christians are 'allowed' to worship God has in the end stifled who worships God. This rings especially true for today's youth. Churches have gone as far as banning certain genre's of music, like Christian rap, from the sanctuary because it's supposed connection to 'hip hop' culture. This is nothing new though, it's been happening for years when it comes to music. Problem is, God is the creator of music, right? If that is true, why do we continue to allow the world to steal what God created for good? Who says a sick beat can't have a holy connection? And last I checked, the root of ALL music was created with the intent to worship God. Don't believe me?
Lets take a closer look at THE most musically influential book of the Bible, Psalms. Over and over again we hear David, express his praise and worship for God through song.
Psalm 150: Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.
Now fast forward a few books to Daniel Chapter 3, and we see a completely different story,
Daniel 3:4-7 Then the herald loudly proclaimed, “Nations and peoples of every language, this is what you are commanded to do: As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.” Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp and all kinds of music, all the nations and peoples of every language fell down and worshiped the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
What do these two passages have in common? Many of the very same instruments David (a man after God's own heart) used to worship and praise God, just a few chapters later, are used to influence an entire kingdom to fall to their knees and worship idols. Does that mean we should we put away the flutes, the harps, and the trumpets because they were once used to worship idols? No, because it's never been about the instrument, the beat, or the music... its always been and always will be about who and what we worship with the music.
How do we not see this is all a part of the enemies plan... music confronts our brokenness, it communicates our pain, it unites us and connects our differences in ways nothing else can. If Satan comes to steal and destroy...why wouldn't he want to destroy the very thing that was created to worship and glorify God? He has done this from the very beginning. Prior to his banishment from heaven, scripture points to Satan as a leader, having influence in part, through music (Isaiah 14). We all know he was self serving and worshiped his own interests over God so why would that change? What needs to change instead, is for us as believers, to have a greater understanding of the power and influence music brings.
So here we are...yes faced with a time where most lyrics promote sin and self-Interest, all the while complaining about a generation that worships Money, Sex, and Drugs over morality and virtue. The way I see it, we have a choice to make... we can continue to hand music over to the influence of the world or we can use it to encourage our youth to live lives that honor God?
Still have doubts that a profound message can come from rap... take a listen and tell me this song doesn't explain salvation better than most ministers can preach it.
As a mom, I sort of have a love hate relationship with summer vacation. On one hand no more early morning drop-offs or running a million miles an hour from school to practice to church and back to another practice. But that also means kids are home 24/7...yeah!
Planning a big vacation is great but figuring out what to do the other 12 weeks of summer can test any mom's patience, especially when the words "I'm Bored" are on repeat every hour on the hour. We Rise is all about finding ways to make the most of summer vacation AND create memories that will positively impact our kids for life. Here are just a few of our favorite summer event ideas!

I know it sounds traditional for all my modern moms but there is no greater joy than cooking with kids. Why? Because cooking teaches math, science, nutrition, and best of all... kids can get their hands dirty. Here are a few ideas that can take cooking to a new level!
Bake some treats and deliver them to those in need.
You won't have to drive around town too long before you find someone that will gratefully accept the treats. Kids will have fun preparing and learn the joy that comes with small acts of kindness.
Visit a local culinary school (www.learn.iot.edu)
Believe or not we have one of the top rated culinary programs in country sitting right in our back yard. Institute of Technology has well known chefs that lead the baking and pasty and culinary programs at the school. Who knows you may have the next master chef.
Did you wait too long to figure out what to do for Mother's Day? Of course you did, mom usually does the planning right? We have a few ideas that are sure to turn Mother's day into a full blown celebration and best of all they are budget friendly and easy to pull off. We are all about planning Mother's like we plan our events, stress free for everyone!
1) Relax & Rejuvenate: At Home Spa
Infused Water (About $3): We love the Dr. Oz detox water... mom can detox and hydrate at the same time. If you are really last minute and don't have 24 hours, the water tastes great after 1 hour.
1. Add sliced cucumbers and lemon, grated ginger, and fresh mint leaves to pitcher. Fill with cold water and let infuse overnight in the refrigerator. Enjoy the next day.
Set the Mood with Moms Favorite Music (Free): Smooth Jazz is always a good option or try searching You Tube, Pandora, or Amazon Music for key words like spa sounds, waterfall music, or sounds of nature.
For Example: Relaxing Music for Stress Relief (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFcSrYw-ARY)
Run a Hot Bath and add some Natural Enhancers ($5): Try Coconut Oil or Lavender Essential Oil to the Tub.
Don't worry, if mom doesn't already have essential oil or coconut oil, they are easy to find! Most big box retailers sell both, essential oils can usually be found in the candle aisle.
Finish with a Cozy Towel ($5-$10): Spend a few dollars to purchase a new towel in moms favorite color. Costco is even offering a coupon this month on both their bath towels and extra large bath sheets. They range in price from $5-$10 after the coupon.
Detox Water: https://www.doctoroz.com/recipe/10-day-tummy-tox-water

The Fresno Gospel Fest on April on April 20th was filled with fun and great music. Hundreds of people from all areas of the Fresno county gathered to with a night of praise through song and dance. The event featured, food trucks, serving various specialties like bacon wrapped hotdogs, fried popcorn shrimp, and ice cream sandwiches made with soft baked cookies. The night also brought a sense of community with attendees of different churches catching up or meeting for the first time, family members hugging and praising God together. To top it off, the event featured local and well known artists (Ryan McClarty, McCoy Dance Studio, Wess Morgan, James Fortune, Yolanda Adams and Fred Hammond) and each one was incredible.
Overall the event was solid, but there was definitely room for improvement. The concert did start about 40 minutes late due to technical difficulties and sound check challenges. This also led to many of the artists being cut off. It started with local artist Ryan McClarty and McCoy Dance Studio who were in the middle of performing Ryan's second song when the producer of the event, came on stage and told the DJ to turn the music off. It left the both the audience and Ryan confused and shocked. They then tried to do the same to Yolanda Adams but she insisted she perform one more song before she left. Both situations were awkward for the artists and the crowd. In addition, there were quite a few intermission breaks. Between the late start, a lot of down time, and performance sets cut short, it is fair to say, the timing of the event was the greatest challenge of the night.
Despite the mishaps, the event was successful at bringing people together, the food was delicious, and the pop-up shops offered great services. We truly enjoyed every artist that performed and loved all of the dancers. It was a great time spent with great people and because of that... we look forward to next years’ Gospel Fest and have high hope's that the concert will improve on this year's event.
The answer for the first is always the same, "It depends your definition of success. If you are ok with being mediocre or blending in then no, if your student wants to stand out...yes!", I say. As for the second- I explain...
DOV Sound is Leading the Way in Student Portfolio's
Keep in mind student portfolio's are still very new to the scene so by default they give students a competitive advantage. To top it off, there are very few companies nationwide, that specialize in building student portfolio's. DOV Sound is not only leading the way in this market but having great success in doing so. Why? Because we take the time to get to know each student we work with. The goal is always to honestly and accurately build a portfolio that best represents the students personality, personality, and character. We want to showcase each student's maximum potential to college admission departments and future employers.
DOV Sound Student Portfolio's have Unlimited Sharing Potential
While, there are a handful of colleges that allow students to build a portfolio through an internal network, students are still limited to only those college's viewing the portfolio. We flip that all around- DOV Sound portfolios allow students unlimited sharing potential. For example, DOV Sound portfolio's can be used for college admissions, scholarship applications, employment opportunities, auditions, etc.
We do not believe in blending in or living under the radar. We believe every person, every student, has the potential to be great and has a purpose to fulfill. It is our job to help students tap into their greatness and create a portfolio that showcases areas grades and test scores can not.
DOV Sound Event Planning
Some people cave, some people rise...Some people break, some people perform...how can handling the pressures of life help you build a brand?
Being a perfectionist and a dreamer my challenge was never thinking big. I also handle a lot of pressure really well. In fact, I joke and say I was made to be a wedding planner or an emergency room surgeon because I am great in a crisis. To tell the truth, a crisis may be my forte but daily pressure I have to work at managing, like REALLY work at it.
I spend a lot of my time listening, reviewing, and examining the communication of the 30 and under crowd. It is not hard, all you have to do is turn on YouTube or walk into a Starbucks during finals week and you will hear the open opinions of our youth. Ina ll of this, I have noticed two things:
1) Our society is confident on the surface, we want to fit in and struggle with the need to stand out
2) Our society is creative & has big expectations.
The upside- the desire to create change and the willingness to speak out. The downside you might ask? Depression. Anxiety. Insecurity. The Need for Approval. With the rise in over-night super celebrity You-Tube Stardom and access to so much mixed information, we've kind of created a world of followers wanting to lead but not knowing how. What do I mean? We have millions of Likes, Tweets, Shares, Status Updates that only replicate what was posted the day before.
So how do we take confidence deeper than surface level? How do we encourage creativity and propel our expectations into action? We learn to lead and we learn to lead by learning to handle pressure. Sudhakar I. Prabu, Director at TPMC, Specialist in Leadership Sudhakar Prabu, Specialist in Leadership at TPMC, says "One of the factors that differentiate great leaders from the rest is their ability to cope with pressure, thrive under pressure, and lead people in high-pressure situations. Leaders who thrive under pressure use pressure as a catalyst to bring out the best in one’s self and in others around them." (1)
Pressure starts young and can come in many forms. It can come from struggling with homework or high expectations at work. It can come in the form of a tough boss or an unfair teacher. Dealing with pressure is not about cowering down and giving in but learning how to rise up and use the challenge, the person, or the situation to make us stronger. Some final tips for better handling pressure and building your brand in the process:

SPRING IS HERE! For most, Spring means perfect weather (no more umbrellas-finally), colorful clothes (bye bye black monochromatic outfit!) and finally putting the pool to good use. Spring is a time to get outside and unwind...but for those planning a Spring wedding it can bring an abundance of stress.
Trying to reserve a venue, find a caterer, hire a photographer, create a wedding website are just a few of the concerns when planning a wedding. It can be challenging and let’s face it, the wedding checklist seems to get longer every day. To all my brides-to-be...just simplify! According to the Huffington post (1), here are the things to avoid while planning your wedding:
· Doing anything before setting a budget
· Neglecting to make a rain plan (Um...this is a big one, people...even if you do live in Fresno)
· Assuming 10 percent of your guests will RSVP ‘no’
· Impulsively sending your save-the-dates
· Buying your dress first
· Nixing the hair and makeup trial
· Saving by not hiring a videographer
· Being too vague with your photographer
· Letting yourself get too stressed (HIRE A PLANNER, or at least a Coordinator and relax)
· Being Too Chill (You Chill, While DOV Sound Plans)
Last but not lease we have to add, hire help! Don't stress yourself out and don't put that burden on your guests or family. Even if you are the master of DIY you will want time to enjoy your wedding, so let a coordinator do the work.

If Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is correct in saying "Music is the universal language of mankind", what does the music of today say about us?
Today’s artists are battling between their values and fame, and it looks like stardom is winning. More than ever, artists are releasing music with a trendy beat and little to no substance. Values are being put on the back-burner just to get a little glimpse of fame. The question is why? Most of the time it comes down to one simple answer, the integrity of the people surrounding the artist.
Sadly, many artists are under the assumption they only need a trendy hit to take their careers to the next level. They compromise their own integrity and the integrity of music, just to get a deal. Shouldn’t we require more of an artist if they want to be taken seriously? After all, many musicians spend a good portion of their lives in a studio. When producer and songwriter Steve Griffiths was asked how many hours he spends in his studio, he stated, “Roughly around 30+ hours”. (1) Serious musicians dedicate much of their time to perfecting their craft but it all starts with choosing the right recording studio.
"Music is the universal language of mankind"- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
At Dov Sound, our recording studio’s purpose is to showcase the artist’s talent and creativity. Our skilled engineers help the artist compose and mix music in a way that best embodies the creator. Allowing them to keep their values as they work on their craft as an artist.
